It is legal to download a TV programme that you’ve paid for in your TV package?
We have Sky TV which shows lost, but I don’t have a VCR so can’t tape it.
We’re paying Sky so that we can watch the programme, so is it legal to download an episode that’s already been on?
You’re legally allowed to make copies of TV programmes and keep hold of them for three months or so, so does that include a downloaded version?
Both downloading the programme AND recording it to VCR, DVD, etc is legal for private use.
The problem with downloading using a P2P programme is that as you are downloading, the programme automatically uploads the portions you have downloaded as well.
This uploading “sharing” is illegal. So, in essence, if you download the programme, you will automatically be violating copyright law by uploading the content.
If you could find a direct download site for the programme where there was no uploading involved, you would be fine.
